Starship Sunday: Sovereign

Edit
An official version of this ship is available in the Command Division sourcebook.

Welcome to Starship Sunday, presenting a new spaceframe for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released.

For September, Starship Sundays is presenting a few ships from The Next Generation era. This week is the Sovereign-class, best known as the U.S.S. Enterprise-E.

After seven years on television and one movie, the Enterprise-D met its end. Spoilers. For the unfortunate reasons that the sets designed for television would not hold up to scrutiny on the big screen, and it was easier to design new sets. (This is why everything looks so dark in the Enterprise during Star Trek: Generations.) Unlike when the original Enterprise was destroyed (in both realities), this time the replacement ship was entirely new. The Galaxy-class was replaced by the ever so slightly smaller Sovereign-class.

This class was produced slightly after the base year in the Core Rulebook. As the newest ships in Starfleet, Sovereign-class ships were awarded to experienced and lauded captains. Despite being tactical powerhouses design to combat threats such as the Borg, they were kept away from the front-lines of the Dominion War. In part because they were more useful resolving internal issues that would otherwise occupy two or three other ships, but also because the ships and their crew were not expendable.

While never seen on the screen, the Sovereign-class was designed to have saucer separation capabilities, like the Enterprise-D. This is not included in the write-up below, to allow Gamemasters the option of not including that unseen feature.
