Starship Sundays: Mirror Defiant

Welcome to Starship Sunday, presenting a new spaceframe for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released.

Continuing Mirror Universe May, I’m adapting & tweaking a few classic ships from the Core Rulebook for play in the darker timeline of the alternate reality. This week is the I.S.S. Defiant.

The Mirror Defiant was built by Terram Rebels on the alternate reality version of Deep Space 9, still known as Terok Nor. In hindsight, this was a poor choice as the ship would be largely identical, literally being created using the same schematics as the one from the Prime Reality. (Something I didn’t consider until finishing up the entry. Oops.)

Ships in the Prime Universe should probably use the regular Defiant for missions, but campaigns set in the Mirror Universe could take place on a Terran made Defiant whose mission is fighting the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and freeing various enslaved species. This is a fun idea being a story very much set in Star Trek, with familiar technology and aliens, but more freed of continuity and the Utopian ideals of Starfleet. Instead, it could be a game with more Star Wars undertones, as brave Rebels face off against an oppressive empire.

  1. The Defiant-class.

Honestly, my favorite canon Trek design. And a really cool Mirror Universe ship, too. 🙂

If you’re taking suggestions for the rest of the Terran ships for this month, I’d say NX and Constellation are musts (NX because of In A Mirror, Darkly, and Constellation as a tie-in to Terran Admiral Nechayev from Tuesdays at Quark’s), but I would also, if possible, like to see a Mirror Sovereign (Some campaign where the Terrans regain their Empire, or a campaign set in the STO-era Mirror Universe).

    1. I already have plans for the next couple ships (I like to plan months ahead), but good suggestions. Not doing the Sovereign, but next week’s is similar and could fill the role you suggest.
