Ten Forward Friday: Hazari

Welcome to Ten Forward Fridays, where a new playable species is presented for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released.
For the month of June I’m highlighting several of the species found in the Delta Quadrant. This week is the Hazari. The Hazari only appeared in a single episode of Voyager, 5×20 Think Tank Described as “bounty hunters with a work ethic” in the episode, the Hazari are somewhat honourable, and care more about the completion of their contract than the reward itself. There’s could be an aspect of honour and loyalty to the Hazari, or just a obsessive dedication to the completion of a task.

The Hazari are presented as a species of bounty hunters, but presumably this is just a percentage of the population (in the same way Humans are explorers/ scientists and Klingons are warriors) and there are civilian Hazari. But the bounty hunters are iconic and define the values of the Hazari. You can imagine darker spin on the Hazari as assassins hired with the elimination of a target, or tasking with kidnapping a citizen of one power to face justice in another empire that does not have an extradition treaty.

Like the Hirogen, the Hazari could easily end up in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant while pursuing prey through a wormhole or spatial anomaly that transports them across the galaxy. Or they could have been displaced by accident and trying to make a new life; as fairly social creatures, they might actively seek out allies.
