Welcome to Starship Sunday, presenting a new spaceframe for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released.
This is Star Trek Online month at Continuing Mission, focusing on a few of the ship created for that Free 2 Play MMO. There’s no shortage of ships for the game, and I want to give a mix of roles. This week is the Tempest, but these stats can just as easily be applied most escorts from that era, such as the Vigilant or Mercury-classes (although it will likely drop down in scale for these).
The Tempest is much like the fan favourite Defiant but comparable in size to an Intrepid ship like the U.S.S. Voyager, which gives it a much larger crew and an ability to function as more than a “large runabout”. The early 25th Century has no shortage of conflict, which could drive an exciting game. The Klingons and Romulans are causing problems, along with species from the Delta Quadrant, the Breen, Species 8472 from fluidic space, and others. In campaigns making their own timeline, the Tempest can function as a military destroyer or combat focused exploratory vessel in hostile space. In a more peaceful 25th Century, the crew of a Tempest vessel could be struggling to balance exploration and diplomatic missions with a ship designed for neither.
