About 2 years ago, me and my friends decided that we wanted to play our STA games together in the shared universe with a focus on shared storytelling. So the events of one table splashes over and make things complicated for another table. It is a giant web of plot threads where you tripping over one at your table can knock over a glass at another.
To help facilitate that, and to add to the diagetic news coverage, I started making news headlines on cards. Initially just the Federation News. But slowly expanded to include other local powers and their views on events. However, that turned into me sharing over a dozen image files every month, and it was unwieldy. Plus, the details were always missing. The final straw was adding the Tactical campaign on top of our current game. I am using this to account where our NPC fleet ships are up to when they are not on screen.
Therefore, I decided to sit down and crack out a newsletter, in the form of a news feed. 80% of the stories in there are actual canon events that happened in our games. I also added some fun sociological and cultural pieces to pad out the universe.
I am not going to have a set schedule of release, as it depends on how quickly out games can get through a mission. But this is a fun way to condense down everything that is happening at our three games.
