Here is a new 2E Canon Event Milestone! Caution: Spoilers on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds).
These are events and repercussions in the established timeline that affect your crew. This often is an improvement or other change that affects your game during specific periods of time (or other timelines or alternate realities your campaign may end up in). You can activate these for use if you are in that timeframe.
One major change is that Canon Event (CE) Milestones have 3 components:
- Traits active during the CE; usually 3, and they are invoked when relevant
- Complication Range indicates what conditions result in a Complication Range increase
- Reconfigurations are special rules active for that period.
Canon Events may overlap, at the option of the gamemaster.
We will be updating past Timeline Milestones into Canon Event Milestones as well as adding new Canon Event Milestones.
In 2259, Starfleet implemented a series of procedures that were codified into the Gorn Protocols. Since the Gorn were massing on the edge of Federation space, Starfleet captains were briefed on the Protocols and had to instruct their crew as well, in case they encountered the Gorn. These measures included phaser harmonics adjustments, tricorder scanner calibrations to detect the Gorn despite their natural invisibility to sensors, and special equipment such as tricorders, type 2 and type 3 phasers, and nitrogen grenades. Crews during this time are better prepared for Gorn encounters thanks to the Protocols.
Optionally, in eras outside of 2259, similar Gorn Protocols may be in place during times of greater Gorn activity. WIth some tweaks, other organizations and polities may have similar Protocols.
Gorn Protocols (2259)
Traits:
- heightened Gorn activity
- Gorn response training
- widespread fear of the Gorn
Complication Range: +1 whenever dealing with situations where the crew must deal with (or rescue) civilians who are terrified by anticipated or actual Gorn presence.
Reconfigurations: During this Canon Event, Federation starships and stations facing a Gorn threat may activate the Gorn Protocols for Escalation 1. When activated, Opportunity Costs for Type II and Type III Phasers and Pulse Grenades are zero for the remainder of the scene. Escalation costs remain the same.
