Here is another 2E Canon Event Milestone!
These are events and repercussions in the established timeline that affect your crew. This often is an improvement or other change that affects your game during specific periods of time (or other timelines or alternate realities your campaign may end up in). You can activate these for use if you are in that timeframe.
One major change is that Canon Event (CE) Milestones have 3 components:
- Traits active during the CE; usually 3, and they are invoked when relevant
- Complication Range indicates what conditions result in a Complication Range increase
- Reconfigurations are special rules active for that period.
We will be updating past Timeline Milestones into Canon Event Milestones as well as adding new Canon Event Milestones.
CANON EVENT MILESTONE: In The Pale Moonlight (September 2374-August 2375)
This Canon Event Milestone is In The Pale Moonlight, based on the ramifications of the episode of the same name on Deep Space Nine, which sees the Romulan Star Empire join the Federation and Klingons against the Dominion, and ends with the Second Battle of Chin’toka, when the Breen-Dominion alliance changes the tide of the war once more.
This time period emphasizes the fact that the Romulans have joined the fight against the Dominion.
Immediately after In The Pale Moonlight incident, you may invoke the Canon Event Milestone In The Pale Moonlight to allow the following changes. This lasts until the Second Battle of Chin’toka.
Traits:
- Romulan cooperation in Alpha Quadrant war efforts
- Cardassians growing distrustful of the Dominion
- Section 31 intrigue
Complication Range: +1 when war efforts and espionage are involved.
Reconfigurations: During this Canon Event, there are greater Dominion War incidents involving espionage, the taking of prisoners, and diplomatic conflicts among allies on both sides.
Between missions, roll 1d20. Based on the roll, a special rule is in effect, and replaced when a new roll is made.
- 1-5 The War is at a stalemate, with equal wins and losses on both sides. There is vast uncertainty. Increase the Complication Range by +1, in addition to other such changes.
- 6-9 The Federation and its allies gain temporary advantage over the Dominion and its allies. However, the gamemaster may choose one current Federation ally (e.g., Romulan, Klingon, or other) who are at odds with the Federation on how to proceed. Begin the next Mission with 2 Momentum. However, increase the Complication Range by +1 when dealing with the chosen ally.
- 10-13 The Dominion and its allies gain temporary advantage over the Federation and its allies. Take the roll and subtract 9 (call that N). Begin the next Mission with +N Threat more than usual.
- 14-16 An NPC or Supporting Character has gone missing, possibly abducted by the Dominion. They return only at the end of this Canon Event Milestone, scarred or changed.
- 17-18 Section 31 or Starfleet Intelligence intrigue affects the War! This may directly or indirectly affect your crew. In either instance, Once per mission at any time, reset Determination to 1 for all PCs at the same time, if all players agree. However, add +1 to the Complication Range thereafter.
- 19-20 Dominion intrigue affects the War! This may directly or indirectly affect your crew. In either instance, Once per mission at any time, the MC may add Threat equal to the number of players.
