Open Focus: Characters begin each mission with five assigned focus and one open focus. Player’s have two options to fill the focus:
Option 1: After Mission Directives are announced or
Option 2: during the course of the Mission, but at a cost.
If the focus is designated when Mission Directives become known, nothing else is required – the character has already realized whatever training and knowledge with which they were pursuing between Missions.
If the Player waits to designate the focus during the mission, two Momentum (or Threat) are spent to designate the focus for use during a Task – a sudden realization of the training pursued between missions. That specific Task roll also has a complication range increased by one step. Whether the Task is successful or not, the newly designated focus remains for the duration of the mission.

That is a really cool table rule!
