Welcome to another edition of Tuesday’s at Quark’s, your source for Star Trek Adventures NPCs! We’re continuing today with Mirror Universe May, looking at some previous entries and considering their Mirror Universe counterparts. The last time we saw the Xindi-Primate captain Heyta she was a strong-willed and risk-taking captain of a Starfleet vessel. But what happens in a universe where there is no Starfleet trying to find a peaceful solution with the Xindi? What happens when Captain Archer isn’t extending an olive branch but instead a spearpoint? I’ll tell you: Heyta gets super-badass.
Like the prime universe, there isn’t much detail about what happens to the Xindi after they meet the Terran Empire. One can assume that they took a beating but what happened in the end? Well, hopefully this interpretation works for your game, I think it answers a few separate questions: what happened to the Xindi and what is going on with the Romulans?
The key with the Mirror Universe’s Heyta is that she carries all of that bravado and cunning but she has a fierce hatred of humans since they are imperialist jerks. She feels that she is carrying a torch for her people’s legacy (like with the prime universe) and with the Terran Empire on the ropes in the 24th century she feels it’s time to get a little payback.
There are plenty of plot hooks in there, but here’s a few to get you started.
- An important starbase is being built as a node of defense against the Cardassians and Klingons, but Heyta’s bird-of-prey crippled one of the last freighters delivering weapons systems. Now the crew needs to find her and take the stolen items back so that the base can become operational before the approaching enemy fleet reaches the starbase and destroys it.
- The Romulan Star Empire has a policy of isolation and so has no direct contact with the Terran Empire. This stolen bird-of-prey, however, is another matter and they are convinced that Heyta is secretly working with the Terrans. When the crew confronts Heyta and her group of terrorists, a Romulan warbird decloaks and demands that they return the stolen property, resulting in a tense stand-off.
- The crew has cornered the traitor Chris Park in a distant and is closing in on their disabled shuttlecraft. Before they can destroy the ship, though, Heyta’s stolen bird-of-prey decloaks and beams the traitor aboard. Is she planning to turn Park over to the Empire’s enemies or does she want to use the traitor’s intelligence for her own purposes? Either way, the crew needs to finish their mission.
