Hello and welcome back to Tuesdays at Quark’s! Partially inspired by surviving the polar vortex at the end of last month, I’m teaming up with Jester Dave to bring you everything Breen in the month of February! Keep an eye out for a Generating Threat article about the Breen but in the meantime, here’s a Breen commander to start things off!
Thot Pann is a typical Breen as seen in the series: imperious, focused, and more than a little dangerous. Not much is known about the Breen (especially in the default setting of just before the Dominion War) but there are some intelligence reports that can shed a little light on the subject. Pann is a bit of a blank slate motivations-wise in order for you to customize his reaction to events in your campaign, but I’ve included some suggestion that he is a little more dedicated and a little less pragmatic than Thot Gor so he can make a good alternative to other Breen around this time.
To get you started, here are a few plot hooks for this character.
- The crew is contacted by the Ferengi merchant Soloc with information he received about a new Breen weapon. If the crew can negotiate the details of them they might be able to change the results of the Second Battle of Chin’toka, but how far can they trust a man like Soloc?
- When a group of Borg cubes unexpectedly shows up near Deep Space Nine, the Federation is contacted by a Breen battle group in the region. Thot Pann offers to coordinate with the crew and a group of Federation vessels to try and halt a Borg invasion.
- In the midst of the Dominion War, the crew recovers information vital to the war effort. They manage to reach the Rolor Nebula before being overtaken by a pair of Breen vessels under the command of Thot Pann. With the nebula disrupting the enemy’s sensors, the crew must play a game of cat-and-mouse to escape intact and get close enough to Deep Space Nine that they can securely transfer their information before it’s too late.
