Realities of Possibility – Part Three: Sporefleet

A wide-angle, digitally rendered, eye-level shot of two Starships from the Star Trek universe in orbit above a planet. On the right, a large, spherical starship, the U.S.S. Straal, with registry number NCC-10285, dominates the foreground. It features large cutouts in its hull, revealing an interior with a hexagonal pattern and glowing blue lights, showing a natural environment within. To the left, a smaller, Galaxy-class starship shares the Straal's orbit. Below them, the planet's surface is covered in a dense layer of white clouds against a blue sky, with its atmosphere visible as a thin, glowing curve. The background is the vast, dark expanse of space, speckled with tiny, distant stars.

Welcome to the next entry of “Realities of Possibility,” where the concept of parallel universes serves as a means to discuss alternate playable options for Star Trek Adventures.

In this edition, we are diving into a reality where a different version of the United Federation of Planets discovered a civilization with the knowledge necessary to make the displacement spore drive a viable method of propulsion. This intellectual exchange resulted in the first type of Starfleet vessel with a spore drive (in their reality) to go into limited production: the Stamets class.

In addition to the ship frame PDF download below, here is an animation of the Stamets-class in action, courtesy of the 3D Blender Artist who brought my ship concept and design to life: Tekknonerd.

You can learn more about Tekknonerd’s creations on his webpage: The Stellar Cartographer. I thought others might be interested in what goes into digitally creating a starship from scratch, so I invited Tekknonerd to answer some questions in an interview, for which he generously accepted. The transcript of our interview will be available in a future blog post.
