Today we have a beta canon Species brought to your STA table by Michael Walton, fan of the game and the site. The Hamalki appear in a number of TOS novels and are referenced in even more so check those out for good context.

Michael Walton is an aspiring speculative fiction author, amateur game designer, and forever GM. Star Trek was his gateway drug into science fiction, and he has raised his children to revere it… as is only proper. He’ll stop gaming when you can pry his dice from his cold, dead hands. Whether or not death will be enough to separate him from Star Trek remains an open question. You can find some of his game design efforts on 1km1kt.net and many of his weirder SF ideas as part of the Orion’s Arm Universe Project.

This Species Profile was written for the game’s first edition, of course, but as I mentioned in my review the other day it’s very easy to port over to 2e as well! For the Hamalki specifically, Crystal Spinner becomes an innate Species Ability and Skin of Glass remains a Species Talent that some Hamalki have. Everything else remains the same!

  1. Now that is cool. More Aliens and Starships from the novels would be fun to see.

I have at least one more in the pipeline. I’m just waiting until I have a better handle on how species write-ups work in second edition.

Love the lore around these aliens. Will definitely be introducing them into some game at some point.
