Fans of Clear Skies, Shield of Tomorrow, and Blood of the Void can be thrilled to have a new installment in the Clear Skies series. Aliza Pearl leads an ensemble cast of actor/RPGers as they take the action to Utopia Planitia, the Starfleet shipyard located on Mars.
How will this show differ from the others? It’s on a station! In the same vein as DS9, Utopia Planitia with be center stage as we watch the people involved with shipbuilding. Much of the game mechanics for the show are based in the Utopia Planitia Starfleet Sourcebook released by Modiphius in 2022.
On January 30, 2023, the show premiered with a session zero episode wherein the group finished up some world building and launched into play. My first take is that this is going to be more of a Lower Decks style of play, with a few characters that lean heavily toward comedy and hijinks. My interest lies in technobabble and the science of shipbuilding, so I look forward to seeing how that is explored.
