Today we have a new STA 2e spaceframe courtesy of site fan Joel Huebner, a gamer from Minnesota. Joel created the Normandy class for their own game, a version of the Prometheus class without the fancy Multi-Vector Assault Mode. If you’re looking for a new ship design for your second edition game then check it out!
From the creator:
I remember watching TOS reruns with my dad. We watched the Original Series movies in the theater and as much as I loved TOS I loved The Next Generation. I still remember the horror of Locutus of Borg and the
cliffhanger introduced in “The Best of Both Worlds.” We didn’t get the channel for Deep Space Nine, and eventually Voyager, so I didn’t get to see them until the late 90s.
I have been involved in tabletop RPGs since the early 80s when we played this game at a sleepover at a friend’s house. I loved it and later found out it was Basic Dungeons and Dragons. We played Advanced
Marvel Superheroes, which quickly became a favorite. Then one day in my local game store I saw a Larry Elmore cover to a game book. It was Shadowrun Second Edition and a new love was born. My love of
Star Trek and TRRPGs met again with Last Unicorn Games Star Trek game. I enjoyed it but it didn’t really hit a chord with me, the same for Decipher’s version. I haven’t had much time to play as I got older and
was working more, then came marriage and a family.
When Star Trek: Picard aired I was able to watch it and started looking for a more resonant Star Trek RPG. With the others long out of print, I discovered Star Trek Adventures. It looked cool, but it took a lot of
effort to grasp the rules. They were much different than anything else I’d played. Once I learned the system and discovered how much I enjoyed it’s more narrative flow, I started getting more invested in
the system. Now with Second Edition I am extremely happy with the layout, and writing, which is much more clear.
Having seen edition wars of many systems I admit I was a little skeptical as to what Second Edition would be, but it is amazing. I could mix and match if I want to (I don’t). In fact I often think of playing other
rpgs and using the 2d20 system, it is so elegant. Since I don’t currently have a game group, I play solo. I’ve played STA 1E solo, Captain’s Log and now I’m anxious to play STA 2E also solo. And I’m working to
get a group of friends together and GM some STA for them and see what they think.
