The Fan Expo 2024 Captain’s Log Workshop, hosted by Josh Allen and me, Michael Dismuke, was an incredible experience for Star Trek fans, storytellers, and tabletop role-playing enthusiasts alike! During the session, we introduced attendees to Star Trek Adventures Captain’s Log Solo Roleplaying Game, the official single-player RPG from Modiphius, and explored how it transforms the iconic adventures of Starfleet into a unique solo creative-writing journey. Participants had the chance to craft their own Trek narratives, generate missions using the Probability Matrix, and build the foundation for their first scenes. The highlight for many was the opportunity to win their own copies of the game, adding a touch of excitement and camaraderie to the experience. It was a fantastic event filled with creativity, inspiration, and, of course, Trek magic!

Here’s what we covered:

  1. Who are you?
  2. Who are we, and why do we love fan fiction?
  3. What’s Captain’s Log?
  4. Goals: generate an episode and get to your first Scene
  5. Roll your Mission (Type and Detail)
  6. Roll your Inciting Incident (Verb and Theme)
  7. Roll an Encounter, to throw you into the action
  8. Roll people, places, and things
  9. Start your first Scene
  10. Game giveaway!

Want the slide deck?

I want to make another episode just like at FanExpo! Do you have the form?

Yep! It’s right here:

Where can I buy Captain’s Log?

In the States, you can get print and digital copies on modiphius.us. There you’ll find lots more RPG products including the multiplayer Star Trek Adventures 2e RPG, tons of adventure modules, and other fun sourcebooks.

Where can I connect with other players and fans?

Lots of places!

I think I need more examples of play

No problem. You can find more examples on:

Thanks for participating in our workshop!

  1. Thanks for a great panel! It was loads of fun and as an old Star Trek SIMer (IRC-based role playing), this would have been amazing back then!

  2. No time like the present to get into Star Trek RPG. Thanks for joining the workshop.
