“…and thank you everyone for participating this morning. I wish you all a good day” my division head said as she closed the meeting. No matter how technologically advanced we become, there are certain things that will never cease. In other words: meetings. Indeed, I was required to spend the better part of this morning attending my station division’s monthly confab. I say “attending” and not “participating” because it was really difficult to stay focused after the second hour (Control + Command, Difficulty 4). Don’t get me wrong. As someone who aspires one day to a leadership position, I recognize the importance of bringing everyone together to ensure mission success. But come on, no meeting should run more than an hour, tops. Sure, my division supervisor always ensures that there is a table of caffeine and carbohydrates at the back of the room for these big meetings. Ah cookies, the physical, edible representation of a Platonic solid. The potential for a perfect balance between crumb and crust. The…sorry, where was I?
Oh yeah, meetings. How is it that amidst all of our modern algorithmic efficiencies we still schedule so many of them? We each carry tech on us all of the time and can readily chat or message at a moment’s notice. And why, given all of our scientific advancement and access to wholesome food, are meetings still buoyed by coffee and pastries? I have been in seven meetings this week already and am beginning to feel the toll they are taking on my metabolism…and it’s only Tuesday. That reminds me, I need to try that new routine this evening in the gym (Control + Medicine, Difficulty 2). It’s supposed to promote a healthy gut microbiome. Maybe I should have a salad tonight for supper while reviewing my notes for tomorrow’s meetings.
