We’re going to fill out the series of Canon Events that stretch from the first episode of Deep Space 9 to its last episode.

Canon Events are events and repercussions in the established timeline that affect your crew. This often is an improvement or other change that affects your game during specific periods of time (or other timelines or alternate realities your campaign may end up in). You can activate these for use if you are in that timeframe.

One major change is that Canon Event (CE) Milestones have 3 components:

• Traits active during the CE; usually 3, and they are invoked when relevant
• Complication Range indicates what conditions result in a Complication Range increase
• Reconfigurations are special rules active for that period.

We will be updating past Timeline Milestones into Canon Event Milestones as well as adding new Canon Event Milestones.

CANON EVENT MILESTONE: What’s Begun Here (January 2371-August 2371)

This Canon Event Milestone is What’s Begun Here, which will cover the stretch of time from the episodes of Deep Space Nine titled 3×01 “The Search, Part 1” to 3×21 “The Die Is Cast”. The title is taken from a line uttered by Eris the Vorta, in 2×26 “The Jem’Hadar”.

This stretch takes place after Dominion is introduced as a threat to the Alpha Quadrant, and the former opportunities afforded by access to the Gamma Quadrant have vanished, replaced with dread. This feeling of impending doom drives some Alpha Quadrant powers to secretly plot to destroy the Dominion and its Founders. The major force in this is the alliance between the Romulan Tal Shiar and the Cardassian Obsidian Order. However, their gambit fails disastrously, marking the end of this Canon Event.

Traits:

• fear and concern over the looming Dominion threat
• intelligence activities and conspiracies abound
• unlikely alliances between governments

Complication Range: +2 on all rolls in the Gamma Quadrant, and +1 on all rolls in the Alpha Quadrant. The Founders have already sent Changeling spies into the Alpha Quadrant.

Reconfigurations: During this Canon Event, caution is the keyword. Everyone is preparing for inevitable conflict, and they are meticulous in their preparations. This too will affect your crew.

At the start of the Canon Event, each Main Character may take an extra Caution (X) Talent on page 149 for the duration of the Canon Event. They may choose any Department, provided they don’t already have Bold already in that Department, and they cannot choose a Department where they have the Bold (X) Talent.

Supporting Characters do not benefit from this advantage.
