So now that we have rules for making space stations (both Part I and Part II), it’s time to get some spaceframes out there! We’ll be posting these semi-regularly so don’t think this is the end of this particular resource.
The first one is the Sigma-class station, a classification first named in Last Unicorn Game’s Deep Space Nine RPG Narrator’s Guide. The station design itself is definitely canon, though, first appearing in Star Trek: The Motion Picture as an orbital office complex. The same model was recycled (though flipped the other way) for Wrath of Khan and then used throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Regardless of what you call it, this is a widely-used station design in the Federation and makes a great design for starbases of every sort. They frequently are stopovers for starships on extended missions and used as the staging base for the Federation task force to retake Deep Space Nine in “Favor the Bold.” Looking at all of these together, this interpretation of the Sigma class is a well-rounded facility that can attend to ships, command fleets, and conduct research. This is a good starting spaceframe as well since it can head in so many directions. If you try it out, let us know what you think!
