An official version of this species is available in the Beta Quadrant sourcebook.
Welcome to Ten Forward Fridays, where a new playable species is presented for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released.
We’re returning to the era of Star Trek: The Original Series for December, detailing peoples who could appear in games set in that era, or the period of Star Trek: Discovery. This week is the Efrosian.
The Efrosians received very little screen time in the series, not really appearing prior to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, with a navigation officer on the U.S.S. Saratoga. The species returned in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, that had an Efrosian serving as President of the United Federation of Planets, implying the race was well established in the Federation if one of their members could ascend to the Presidency.
First contact between Earth and the Efrosians was not covered in the series, but a FASA RPG places it in the 2178. This means Efrosians could be found in The Original Series era and onward, but it is possible for a trader or explorer to encounter Starfleet prior to official first contact, allowing play in the decades between TOS and Star Trek: Enterprise.
Most of their lore comes from novels or other semi-canon sources. Even the name is debated: the Decipher RPG’s Aliens sourcebook names the race the Atreonids of Atreos IV. Prior to that, the novelization of Star Trek VI says that “Present Ra-ghoratrei” was a Deltan! However, as the species is so seldom used but visually identifiable, player are free to play a known people but to make them their own.
