Welcome to Starship Sunday, presenting a new spaceframe for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released.
For April, I decided to return to The Original Series and fill out the fleets of that era. I’m continuing with another Star Trek Online ship, the Atlas-class dreadnought.
This is a large and beefy ship. Probably the largest ship in the fleet prior to the Excelsior-class. According to the very loose lore provided by Star Trek Online, this is a “prototype dreadnought” so I’m assuming only a single ship was produced. But as it’s canonicity was loose at the best of times, it’d be easy to have a couple more in service.
The Atlas likely serves as the stick when carrot based diplomacy fails. As the trouble shooter vessel, it’s the ship dispatched to face off raiders or rogue ships from enemy forces. It’d also lead fleets during the threat of open hostility, especially if playing in an alternate timeline (or the Kelvin timeline), where the Atlas could be the flagship in a war against the Tholians or Klingons.
The Atlas might be an interesting as a Admiralty vessel, coordinating fleet movements throughout a sector. Having it primarily be a relief ship managing medical efforts might be an interesting contrast with the purpose of the ship. The ship might also be an interesting replacement vessel for an experienced captain. When a Constitution ship is lost in the line of duty, a skilled captain could be awarded with the Atlas.
