Featured Starship articles spotlight established starships that you can use as a ship for players for immediate play (such as for a demo or convention game), or as an NPC ship in your campaign. Some are a natural fit with characters from the Featured Crew articles. Only Core Rulebook rules will be used (with perhaps a few special exceptions, such as the space frames from the Command Division supplement).
The U.S.S. Cairo (NCC-42136) is an Excelsior-class starship active in the 24th century. It is best known as Captain Edward Jellico‘s ship in 2369, during the events of the TNG episode “Chain of Command“. Being Jellico’s ship, it is a tightly-run ship with 4 shifts, and it can be assumed that it has tactical and negotiation specializations based on Jellico’s past experiences with the Cardassians.
At some point between 2369 and 2374, the Cairo became Captain Leslie Wong’s ship. In 2374, the Cairo disappeared in the Romulan Neutral Zone while on patrol. It was assumed without proof that the Jem’Hadar crossed the Romulan border and caught them by surprise. However, as there isn’t evidence of its destruction, it could have suffered a different fate in your campaign. Perhaps it encountered a temporal anomaly, or was taken into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker’s mate.
This version assumes the current date is 2371. If in use in other periods, you may adjust the stats as needed.
If you are using Featured Crew for quick PCs, this starship would be the natural choice for a crew under the command of Captain Jellico. After 2374, if the Cairo survived whatever befell it in the Neutral Zone, it could have a different captain than Leslie Wong, and even be the starship for a new Delta Quadrant campaign.
I include here a version created through the official Modiphius app.
