Kalita is a human member of the Maquis, first encountered in the TNG episode, “Preemptive Strike“, working with Macias’s cell. She accompanied Ro Laren on a raid of the Enterprise-D’s medical supplies, and came to trust her. Later, we encountered her again in the DS9 episode, “Defiant“, where she assisted Thomas Riker and piloted the stolen U.S.S. Defiant. She was taken into custody.
However, beta canon indicates that she was freed by another Maquis cell while in transit between DS9 and Starbase 375. That frees her to participate in further Maquis plots. It is also stated that she had feelings for Thomas Riker, but her affections had not been returned.
