Ships of Star Trek Online: Multi-Mission Explorers

OVERVIEW: The Vesta-, Aventine-, and Rademaker-class multi-mission explorers entered service in late 2380 as long-range exploration vessels and testbeds for several Federation technologies, including the first version of Starfleet’s quantum slipstream drive.

CAPABILITIES: These vessels share a similar subspace profile with the earlier Intrepid-class starship, allowing them to reach a maximum cruising speed of Warp 8 and a maximum speed of Warp 9.99. The ships’ slipstream drive allows them to travel quadrant-spanning distances in days or weeks instead of years.  Their sensors are even more advanced than those on the Intrepid, and onboard chroniton integrators allow the ships to take sensor readings with a temporal shift of several seconds while their slipstream drive is engaged.

Each multi-mission explorer variant holds approximately 750 crew, including runabout pilots and dedicated science teams. The ships’ normal weapons loadouts include phaser arrays, twin phaser cannons, and 200 quantum torpedoes. They can also carry transphasic torpedoes for anti-Borg operations. The complement of runabouts can assist in both exploratory and combat roles as needed. Like the Intrepid, the multi-mission explorer is capable of planetary landings.
