Campaigns Beyond: The Crucible

Campaigns Beyond is a new feature at Continuing Mission, where we focus on a region of the Star Trek universe and provide a sample campaign set there, expanding on the concept presented in our article Sargon And Beyond: The ‘Missions Beyond’ Campaign but updated and on a grander scale. The map has a hex-grid (where one hex is approximately eight light years from side to side) for ease of reference. Each campaign will include a list of published adventures (either from Modiphius, Continuing Mission, or other homebrew missions) that you can run. Some are placed in designated hexes, others are free for you to insert as you wish. Suggested Eras are presented, but you may adapt the missions as needed. All Campaigns Beyond settings and maps will be compatible with each other, campaign concept permitting. Adapt these as you wish and make the campaign your own!
See Adventures Index for sources and links.

The Crucible is Continuing Mission’s colloquial name for the area of space in the Beta Quadrant near Zakdorn. This campaign is designed for The Original Series era, and draws upon Mission Briefs and standalone adventures set in that era. However, the majority of the adventures may be easily adapted for use with The Next Generation era, if you wish. An exploration of this space in the TOS era would likely start at either Starbase 84 or 247.

It isn’t stated in canon when First Contact with Zakdorn was, so you can either include Zakdorn in your TOS campaign (as an important First Contact) or limit the range of exploration just shy of Zakdorn. Beta canon suggests that Zakdorn joined the Federation in 2344, which need not be how it plays out in your campaign.

The region pairs up well with our Sargon And Beyond setting. (Further support using this set of grid references is forthcoming.) We have also suggested a location for the Tricorder Set mini-campaign, The Keyhole of Eternity, in this region.

Missions for the hexes in the Crucible are from the Modiphius adventure collection Strange New Worlds, and free Mission Brief collections from Modiphius.
