While I can see keeping the focus on the Main Characters, I can’t help but repeat the O’Brien effect you mentioned: he started very much as a Supporting Character (without a name even), eventually got an episode of his own (“The Wounded,” which had O’Brien, Keiko, Maxwell, and Macet as non-main characters, and only barely touched on the main characters at all) and then eventually became a main character for DS9.

    If my players have favourite Support Crew and the CMO or the Counsellor really start to invest in the pilot or security types, that’s something they’re enjoying, and above all else, this is a game and they’re enjoying themselves. I’ll always try to make sure my players—and their characters—have as much of the spotlight as possible, but in the spirit of “yes, and…” roleplaying, I’m going to let them lead, but that’s maybe a different style of GMing, perhaps.

    And to BC’s and Jim’s point at the end—it’s not just the “every time they’re introduced” but those Mission Logs (which are just “rearranging” options) tend to be so much more useful to tweak Support Crew once you’ve settled on your characters—which I’ve noticed my group uses to really nudge Support Crew into their niches.
