We bring you a new map region: the Taurus Reach. If you’re familiar with the Alpha and Beta Quadrant maps in the 1e books, our map extends the region to the Galactic South and is done in the same style.
This version is assembled from various sources, primarily versions of Star Trek: Stellar Cartography by Larry Nemecek, the sector map from Star Trek Discovery and Strange New Worlds, the map from STA 2e, and startrekmap.com. Where there are discrepancies (many!), we’ve gone with choices and tweaks that seem the most interesting for gaming. So, you may find that on our version, some things don’t quite align with other maps, but these are intentional. (E.g., there were two systems named Zibal, and we’ve disambiguated by designating one Zibalia; Gorn space is truer to its previous location, whereas the 2e map shows a larger swathe, which may have been its extent in the SNW era.)
The Taurus Reach is in the general direction of the Taurus constellation as seen from Earth. The major powers in this region of space are the United Federation of Planets, Tholian Assembly, the Talarian Republic, and the Klingon Empire, as well as being close to the Gorn Hegemony. There is also the presence of the Sheliak Corporate. There are significant areas that are unaligned, perfect for hitherto unexplored space.
There are a few intriguing systems to point out: Cait, Grazer, Tiburon, Pacifica, and Elaysia are just some examples. There are also anomalies like Gateway (the Time Vortex Planet, with the Guardian of Forever), Murasaki 312, and the Delta Triangle.
One book series, Star Trek Vanguard, takes place in the Taurus Reach around 2265-2268. It focuses on a Watchtower-class space station called Vanguard.
We hope to populate this region with new Mission Briefs, NPCs, and more for Star Trek Adventures Second Edition based on inspirations from the map, but you can develop this region for your campaign however you like, in whichever era you like. Tell us about your voyages in the Taurus Reach!
