Here is another 2E Canon Event Milestone!
These are events and repercussions in the established timeline that affect your crew. This often is an improvement or other change that affects your game during specific periods of time (or other timelines or alternate realities your campaign may end up in). You can activate these for use if you are in that timeframe.
One major change is that Canon Event (CE) Milestones have 3 components:
- Traits active during the CE; usually 3, and they are invoked when relevant
- Complication Range indicates what conditions result in a Complication Range increase
- Reconfigurations are special rules active for that period.
We will be updating past Timeline Milestones into Canon Event Milestones as well as adding new Canon Event Milestones.
CANON EVENT MILESTONE: Conspiracy (2364)
This Canon Event takes place in the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and involves the alien parasite conspiracy that overtook Starfleet Command. During this time, alien parasites targeted key Starfleet personnel to dominate, and eliminated those they couldn’t control.
In 2364, some Starfleet captains began noticing strange patterns, such as unusual orders and high-ranking officials backing irrational proposals. A series of accidents have also plagued Starfleet, causing deaths of key figures in Starfleet. They have become uneasy, unsure of what is going on. A few have started speaking in secrecy about a conspiracy.
In fact, a great number of top-level Starfleet brass have become compromised, with the infected having one weakness: the loss of long-term memory.
This Canon Event ends in 2364, or more specifically, Stardate 41780.2, after the alien parasite mother inside Remmick was killed.
Traits:
- unusual orders from Starfleet Command
- series of accidental high-ranking deaths
- growing mistrust among Starfleet personnel
Complication Range: +1 when dealing with Starfleet Command and other Starfleet captains.
Reconfigurations: During this Canon Event, major NPCs within Starfleet might be compromised by alien parasites or targeted for elimination. Roll 1d20 before introducing a new major NPC who is not a member of the PC’s starship (Starfleet Command, captains, and some senior staff). It is recommended that only one NPC undergoes the roll below each mission, so choose who is at risk. Direct infiltration of the PC’s starship is not recommended, but they may start hearing or noticing oddities.
1-8 This NPC has not been compromised by alien parasites…yet.
9-10 This NPC has not been compromised by aliens, but grows suspicious of Starfleet Command sometime after this mission. Roll again on the table after each new mission in 2364, with a +1 modifier (cumulative) each time.
11-13 This NPC has not yet been compromised by alien parasites as of this mission, but will become compromised sometime after this mission.
14-16 This NPC has not been compromised by alien parasites as of this mission, but will meet a tragic fate sometime after this mission. (This may be a death or coma, depending on whether they are essential to your campaign.)
17-19 This NPC has been compromised for weeks, but their status escapes notice this mission (unless the crew are actively aware of the existence of these alien parasites).
20 This NPC has not been compromised, but will meet a tragic death on-screen (their starship or shuttle explodes, or there is a transporter accident). All signs point towards a simple accident, but increase the Complication Range for this Canon Event Milestone by +1 (to a maximum of +3).
Those who have been compromised but are still alive will return to normal after the mother parasite has been eliminated (Stardate 41780.2).
