Starship Sunday: Tellarite Pralim

Welcome to Starship Sunday, presenting a new spaceframe for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released.

For June, I’m continuing to do non-Starfleet Federation vessels. These are slanting to the early years of Star Trek Enterprise, but the refit rules can be applied to move these ships into the 23rd or even 24th Centuries.

This week is a ship of a founding member of the Federation, the classical Tellarites. The odd-man-out in the founding members, without the military of the Andorians or the Vulancs and lacking the tension of those two people. The Tellarites strike me as much more focused on trade and private interests than conquest or their neighbours, so their ships likely served a defensive role.

I can’t see them being adapted to a role in the Federation Starfleet after founding, to the same degree as Vulcan and Andorian ships. But while not performing the “sexy” tasks of boldly seeking out new worlds, ships like the Pralim class might be just as important, if not more important to the fledgling alliance, helping secure trade and maintaining the spirit of cooperation among new members. Following these days, the ships might move into civilian hands, perhaps being used by independent captains looking to make money on the frontier.
