Featured Crew articles spotlight familiar characters not currently covered by official stats. Each article will typically feature a Major NPC version of the character, as well as a playable Main Character version (Core Rulebook compliant) that you can hand out to a player for immediate play (such as for a demo or convention game).
I wanted to find some non-human options for Captains, and the Bolian, Captain Rixx, is one of Starfleet’s finest captains. Although he appeared in only one scene, in the TNG episode “Conspiracy“, he is the first Bolian to appear on-screen (in less blue make-up), and his unusual appearance makes him memorable. We know from the episode that he is among Starfleet’s top captains, and that he is cautious in the matter of the conspiracy. The episode places him as active as Captain of the U.S.S. Thomas Paine in 2364, and beta canon has established him as still Captain of the Thomas Paine in 2371. According to the novels, he was still in Starfleet as of 2378, but retired in 2380 and wrote a book on first contact. I also looked at his card in the Collectible Card Game for his Astrometrics Focus.
Since not much is known about Rixx, a player choosing to play him as Captain has a lot of leeway to do what they wish. A GM using him as an NPC also has freedom to establish his personality and career path without worrying about canon.
