Featured Crew articles spotlight familiar characters not currently covered by official stats. Each article will typically feature a Major NPC version of the character, as well as a playable Main Character version (Core Rulebook compliant) that you can hand out to a player for immediate play (such as for a demo or convention game).
Saavik was mentored by Spock at Starfleet Academy, and was a navigator (Lieutenant, j.g.) aboard the Enterprise (and later the ill-fated U.S.S. Grissom). She was embroiled in the Genesis Device incidents in 2285, and was instrumental in saving Spock on the Genesis Planet.
There is some flexibility in her species, as the original scripts indicated that she was half-Vulcan/half-Romulan, but that fact wasn’t in the final version of the movies. I indicated Vulcan as a Trait, but feel free to add Romulan as well if you wish to utilize that aspect.
Saavik is a character that easily fits in the TOS Movie Era, but could also be used in the TNG era, as the beta canon has her as Captain by 2371. She commanded science vessels mostly, until 2373 when the Dominion War led her to request a combat-worthy vessel. She was assigned to the U.S.S. Alliance, an Excelsior-class starship, as a result. However, you don’t need to abide by the novels and comics, and just give her a ship, starbase, or other background appropriate to your campaign.
There is a TOS Movie Era version of Saavik that focuses on Conn, and a TNG version where she is ready for Command. In addition, you can choose either Kirstie Alley’s image or Robin Curtis’s image, depending on which Saavik is your favourite.

So, um, why does the younger version of Saavik have Control 11 while her older self has only Control 10? Am I the only one who noticed this?
Higher Insight, less Control.
Attributes can downgrade with age? Or was this just a redistribution? And is this sort of thing represented in the Rules As Written by stuff like Sarek having Bendii Syndrome? (Man, I *really* gotta finish reading the rules in the corebook…)
These are intended to be playable as starting PCs, so each is redesigned as a starting character regardless of age.
