Friend of the site Dan is back with another spaceframe for your Star Trek Adventures game. Previously Dan has submitted missions (An Ensign’s Cornucopia and Steal the Bismark) but this is the first submission for STA 2e.

The Ares class is named for the USS Ares, the starship commanded by Garth of Izar in the fan film Prelude to Axanar. If you haven’t delved into this before, Prelude to Axanar is a documentary-style film about the Four Years War against the Klingons, specifically the career of Captain Kelvar Garth of the USS Ares who took back initiative in the war (and later appeared in the TOS episode “Whom Gods Destroy“). The movie was funded on Kickstarter and raised ten times its goal. They put the money to good use and in the twenty-minute film they present a very interesting look at both sides of that conflict. It’s very fun but very much at odds with Federation history as shown in the newer shows Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Regardless of all that, the Ares class is an impressive and powerful ship design that you can bring to your home game. Follow the events outlined in Prelude to Axanar or meld it with the canon history of the era. Either way, it’s a great addition to the STA options for your game!
